Treatments and drugs

By Mayo Clinic staff Standard treatments for ADHD in children include medications, education, training and counseling. These treatments can relieve many of the symptoms of ADHD, but they don't cure it. It may take some time to determine what works best for your child.

Attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and other attention related behavior problems are characterized by symptoms of impulsivity, emotional outbursts, hyperactivity, inattention, loss of focus, forgetfulness, and disorganization. These symptoms may be present all at once or may only appear occasionally, depending on the situation. ADHD first appears in childhood and can cause significant academic difficulties. Children with ADHD often have problems completing assignments, staying still in class, and following directions. They tend to be singled out by their peers because of their unruly behavior and may have challenges making friends. ADHD can be managed through behavior modification, therapy, and/or psychotropic medication. Many children learn how to live quite productively with their ADHD by the time they are adults, however others may face challenges with ADHD into adulthood.

What is Biblical Counseling?

A focus of biblical counseling is to help others develop a biblical worldview of their life and recognize the core truth that guides right thinking and actions.

BIBLICAL COUNSELLING
"Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of  compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles,  so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves  have received from God."  (II Cor. 1:3,4)
INTRODUCTION: Counselling is vital to effective Christian leadership, and especially in the work of the cell leader.  In Paul's words, God "comforts us in all our troubles" so that we can help others as they confront their own problems.  'Counselling' describes this process of helping and comforting others in God.
In this article, therefore, we will focus our attention on counselling so that as we go about leading cell groups and generally, we will be sensitive to this aspect of leadership, with its peculiar aspects, perspectives and skills.  (As with all practical disciplines, the attitude and skills which are necessary can  only be developed through facing real-life situations.  Such a paper as this can only serve to orient.)
